They had celebrated their seventy second wedding anniversary with family and friends on April 19th. Garcelon February 27th 1918 - April 22nd 2013 Louise W. Garcelon passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving husband Winston Garcelon and family members. They had celebrated their seventy second wedding anniversary with family and friends on April 19th. Louise was a vibrant woman of great presence who remained active and engaged, attending family functions, dining out and going to the movies until a week prior to her death. She was a very generous person giving to too many charities to list. She was born in Ellensburg, Washington. The family relocated to the San Francisco Bay area when she was four years old. After her father's death she moved to Southern California where she grew up. Louise moved to Trinity County in late 1938 where she met and married Winston in 1941. Together they moved to Humboldt County after WWII. Louise attended the Eureka Business School and worked as the bookkeeper for her husband's construction business for many years. She was a woman with great artistic and creative skills. She was an excellent tailor making several wedding gowns and other beautiful articles of clothing; often altering or creating her own patterns. Louise was a skilled baker who made beautiful wedding cakes with multiple tiers for family and friends. She loved antique furniture and refinished and restored many pieces back to their original condition. She taught herself how to read music and to play the piano while the family sang along. She was also an expert markswoman and was lovingly referred to by her grandchildren as their pistol packing Grammie. She would accompany her husband Winston deer hunting and hiking in the mountains that she loved. She and Winston also spent many weekend trips looking for wild flowers and taking thousands of pictures of them. She dearly loved her family and was a wonderful Mother. Her home was often the meeting place for the neighborhood children who gathered around as she read stories to them. With her love of children, she ran a family daycare home for several years in the early 50's. She loved to play board games and cards with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was an avid reader and had an extensive book collection. She also collected salt and pepper sets, elephants and China cups and saucers. She left behind her husband Winston, son Dennis Garcelon and wife Marlena of Alamo, CA, daughter Julie Reed and husband Don Reed of Eureka, Grand children Marc Garcelon of Kansas City, Mo, Sam Garcelon and wife Dana of Portland, OR, Molli Burkett of Phoenix, AZ., Ginger Reeves and husband Bill of Willow Creek, CA, Ken Livingston and wife Amy of Norcross, GA, Scott Livingston and wife Rose of Elk Grove, CA, Erin Reed and partner Rebecca of Portland, OR and Kristen Reed of Pardeeville, WI. She also had nine great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her mother, Ila Hardin, father, Walter Spencer, brother, Robert Spencer, step-father, Otis Hardin and her dearest friend Ann Bleything. Louise was a spiritual woman and those left behind take comfort that she has passed on to a better place. A graveside service will be held for family members only. A donation to the Salvation Army or the Disabled American Veterans, P.O. Box 14301, Cincinnati, Ohio 45250-0301 in lieu of flowers would be appreciated.
