LOUISE KELLEY DIED IN SANTA CRUZ FORMER WELL KNOWN WILLOWS WOMAN PASSES AWAY THURSDAY MORNING The sad news of the death Thursday morning of Mrs. Louise Kelley at the home of her sister, Mrs. Alta Southill, at Santa Cruz was received by her brother, Joseph Zumwalt, by telegraph and it spread sorrow among her many friends in this city. While her passing had been expected for weeks it nevertheless, caused a shock to relative and friends. Mrs. Kelley left here last spring and entered a hospital in Santa Cruz expecting to undergo an operation. Her condition, however, was found to be hopeless and she was spared this ordeal. Two weeks ago she left the hospital and went to the home of her sister to await the end which came mercifully Thursday morning. Louise Kelley was the eldest of the Dan Zumwalt family of children. She was a native of California being born near the old town of Silveyville in Solano county in 1855. She was therefore 70 years of age at her death. In 1872 her parents came to what is now Glenn county and settled on the quarter section of land on which Willows now stands. it was here that the deceased met K. E. Kelley and became his bride in 1876. Mr. Kelley was a promising young attorney and later becam interested in the late Frank Freeman's scheme of creating Glenn county out of Colusa County. He died some 25 years ago. The funeral will be held here next Monday afternoon immediately after the arrival of the 1 o'clock train. The remains will be taken to the Tucker mortuary where services will be conducted by Rev. J. C. Garth. Interment will be made in the family plot in the Willows cemetery. The deceased is survived by her father and the following brothers and sisters: Joseph Zumwalt of Willows, Harry Zumwalt of Sacramento, John E. Zumwalt of San Francisco, Mrs. Alta Southill of Santa Cruz and Mrs Addie Hainline of San Francisco and a long list of nephews and nieces. She was a woman of fine attainments and is remembered by scores of the older residents of Willows.
