Hite was called to Altoona Monday by the illness of her sister, Mrs. Lavina Nelson, who died on Tuesday. The body was brought to Cherokee yesterday and burial made in the Cherokee cemetery. Cherokee Sentinel, Sept. 23, 1921, page 1: Obituary Miss Lavina McClure was born in Savana County, Missouri, March 15, 1870. She moved to Kansas with her parents at the age of five years. She was married to Mr. James Nelson on the 10th day of December, 1890. To this union two sons were born, Ray and Roy. She united with the Christian church at the age of 16 years, living a Christian life and the faith was so beautiful to her in her last days. She departed this life Tuesday, September 13 at her home in Altona, (sic) Kansas, at the age of 51 years, (unreadable) months and 28 days after a lingering illness of 3 months. She leaves to mourn her loss, two sons, five grandchildren, four sisters, Mrs. Jas. McCarty of Neodesha, Kans.; Mrs. Dave Nechtschatt of Gas City, Ka.; Mrs. Charley Hite and Mrs. Fred Strode, of Cherokee, Kans.; two brothers, Mr. Will McClure of Rush, Colo.; and Mr. Will McClure of Cherokee, Kans. The funeral services were held at her home in Altona, Wednesday afternoon by Rev. Mason of the Christian church. On Thursday morning the body was brought to Cherokee and a short service by Rev. E.L.
