Lowell moved with his parents to Centerville when he was four years old. He attended Joy rural school and graduated from Centerville High School in 1942. He was drafted into the United States Army in February of 1945 and was stationed in the Philippines during World War II. Voog, 80, died, Saturday, Oct. 2, 2004. Lowell was born Feb. 9, 1924 in Sisseton to parents Axel and Martina (Seal) Voog. Lowell moved with his parents to Centerville when he was four years old. He attended Joy rural school and graduated from Centerville High School in 1942. He was drafted into the United States Army in February of 1945 and was stationed in the Philippines during World War II. He served in the Army until his honorable discharge in November of 1946 when he returned to Centerville and continued his lifelong occupation as a farmer. Lowell married Priscilla Andersen on Feb. 4, 1950. The couple resided in the Centerville area. Priscilla died in 1964 and Lowell continued to farm and live in the area until his death. Lowell was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith and was a member of Scandia Lutheran Church. He also belonged to the Centerville American Legion. Lowell loved so many things about the farm. He enjoyed restoring old tractors and farm equipment as well as antiques. He belonged to the Dakota Heritage Society and competed in National Corn Husking contests and thoroughly enjoyed all the friends he made during his involvement. Lowell's greatest joy in life was his family and especially loved being with his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Priscilla, two brothers, Melvin and Arnie, and four sisters, Alida, Evelyn, Mildred, and Arlet. Survivors include two sons: Lauren Voog and wife Kathleen of New London, Minn. and Bruce Voog and wife Sandra of Centerville; daughter Karen Johnson and husband Mike of Yankton; seven grandchildren: Justin and Lucas Voog, Ashlea and Rachael Johnson, and Evan, Peter, and Alex Voog; three brothers: Casper Voog and wife Vera of Beresford, Martin Voog and wife LaVonna of Centerville, and Ellsworth Voog and wife Harriet of Sioux Falls; two sisters: Marcella Hietzman of Emerson, Neb. and Juna Carlson and husband Oliver of Beresford; many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends; and special friend Delores Twite of Beresford. Funeral services were held Tuesday, Oct. 5 at Scandia Lutheran Church in Centerville. Burial was in Riverview Cemetery, rural Centerville.
