Read More	Hawk Eye, The(Burlington, IA) Saturday, September 22, 2001 Lowell Delbert Burden , 74, of rural Mount Pleasant, died Thursday, Sept. 20, 2001, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City. Born Nov. 13, 1926, in Milford, Neb., he was the son of Floyd and Hazel Schweitzer Burden . He married Rosemary Becker on Jan. 3, 1953, in Clear Creek. Following their marriage, Mr. Burden and his wife moved to the rural Mount Pleasant area, where he farmed for many years. He also worked part time for Metromail, Hunsakers Trucking and Barton Construction. He served in the Army and Army Reserves. He loved operating and repairing steam engines, and used his knowledge and skill while volunteering at Midwest Old Threshers each year since its beginning. He also enjoyed reading and baseball. He was a member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, Farm Bureau and American Legion Bob Tribby post No. 58. Survivors include his wife; his parents of Mount Pleasant; three sons, Jim Burden of Mount Pleasant, Merlin Burden of New London and Duane Burden of Dallas City, Ill.; two daughters, Kathy Goff of New London and Joyce Conner of West Des Moines; four brothers, Bob Burden of Mount Pleasant, Ken Burden of New London, Gary Burden of Morning Sun and Bill Burden of Conroe, Texas; one sister, Jean Roth of Mount Pleasant; 15 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one son and two brothers. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Sunday at Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel in Mount Pleasant. A Christian vigil service will be at 6 p.m., after which the family will receive friends until 8 p.m. The funeral Mass for Mr. Burden will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, with the Rev. Nick Adam officiating. Burial will be in St. Alphonsus Cemetery. Memorials have been established for Midwest Old Threshers, the American Cancer Society and his church.
