Lowell Henry William Marbach was born Dec. 30, 1914, in Ruble, the son of Henry and Madie (Johnson) Marbach. He attended Johnson Township No 2 Country School and graduated from Akron High School. During his high school years, he enjoyed playing football. Mr. Marbach operated a gas station at James and later purchased the Ruble Store. Marbach, 82, of Le Mars died Friday, Aug. 29, 1997, at Brentwood Good Samaritan Center. Lowell Henry William Marbach was born Dec. 30, 1914, in Ruble, the son of Henry and Madie (Johnson) Marbach. He attended Johnson Township No 2 Country School and graduated from Akron High School. During his high school years, he enjoyed playing football. Mr. Marbach operated a gas station at James and later purchased the Ruble Store. On June 20, 1942, he married Anna Schuette at St. John Lutheran Church in Craig. He served his country during World War II in the United States Army and was honorably discharged in 1946. Following his discharge, Lowell returned to Ruble to operate the Ruble Store with his wife, and also work at the Corner Store in South Sioux City, Neb. In 1953 he went to work for the Le Mars Fruit and Grocery Store in Le Mars, where he worked for 19 years. In 1972 he started employment with Hy-Vee in Le Mars, retiring in 1984. Mrs. Marbach died June 4, 1993. Mr. Marbach was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, ELCA, American Legion Wasmer Post 241 of Le Mars, and the Le Mars Lions Club. Lowell was a patient man who enjoyed doing sketches and helping Anna create many cakes for weddings and special occasions. He was often said to be an architect for many wedding cake designs. He also enjoyed watching football games on television. Survivors include a son, Larry Marbach of Le Mars; two daughters, Loanne Bates and her husband, Wayne, of Merrill, and lynell Marbach of Scottsdale, Ariz.; four grandchildren, Michael, Kevin, and Todd Bates, and Lyndsey Hightree-Hinsley; a brother and sister-in-law, Kenneth and Theone Marbach of Sioux City; and a sister and brother-in-law, Helen and Elmer Hoffman of Le Mars. He was also preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Ruth Lamoureux and Wilma Treinen; and twin grandsons, Scott and Kevin Hightree. Funeral services were at 11 a.m. today at St. John’s Lutheran Church, ELCA in Le Mars with the Rev. Gary Landsness officiating. Burial was in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, at Ireton, with graveside military honors provided by the American Legion Wasmer Post 241 of Le Mars.
