MARBACH IS CALLED TO HER FINAL REWARD Death Comes to Esteemed Woman Following Brief Illness and Operation Western Plymouth county lost one of its most highly esteemed and widely known residents by the death of Mrs. Maidie M. Marbach, owner of the general store at Ruble, last Friday afternoon, January 26, 1934, at the Lutheran hospital in Sioux City, following an operation for appendicitis. She had been ill for several days before entering the hospital, where her, daughter, Ruth is taking nurse's training. It was there determined she was suffering from an attack of appendicitis and an operation was performed on Sunday, January 21. Apparently the appendix had been ruptured for several days and it was recognized at once that her condition was extremely critical. A determined effort was made to save her life, those in attendance doing everything humanly possible for her relief, but all without avail, and she passed to her eternal reward at the age of 47 years, 11 months and 16 days. Maidie Marie Johnson, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry W Johnson, was born in Mt. Olive, Illinois, February 11, 1886, and came to Akron with her parents in 1892. She was baptized in the Lutheran church at Mt. Olive and confirmed in Trinity Lutheran church in Akron. She attended the public schools here and graduated from the Akron High school in 1905. She continued her studies at Western Union College in Le Mars and also at Iowa State Teachers college, Cedar Falls, after which she taught successfully in the rural schools of Plymouth County for several years. On June 21, 1910, she was united in marriage with Henry C. Marbach, at Le Mars, and this union was blessed with three daughters and two sons. Her husband was taken from her side on December 18, 1918, during the dreadful epidemic of influenza. Left with five young children, Mrs. Marbach bravely determined to continue the general store business established by her husband at Ruble, and by the application of sound business principles, by accommodation and square dealing she gained the confidence at patronage of people in a wide scope of territory surrounding the store. Her kind and courteous disposition, her generosity and willingness to serve in every good cause won for her an ever increasing host of loyal friends. She took rightful pride in business success achieved, but always uppermost in her mind was the welfare of her children, to whom she gave unstinted devotion. She will be sincerely missed and mourned in the community in which she served so usefully and well for many years. Mrs. Marbach leaves to mourn her untimely departure five children: Ruth, a nurse in the Lutheran Hospital in Sioux City; Helen, Lowell, Kenneth and Wilma; all living at home; also her father, Henry W. Johnson, of Akron; three brothers, George and William Johnson, of Sioux City, and John Johnson, of Denver, Colo.; two sisters, Mrs. Margaret Larsen, of Storm Lake, Iowa, and Mrs. Anna Dodge, of Sioux City. Her mother died September 28, 1930. The community tenders its sincerest sympathy to the bereaved relatives. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock in Trinity Lutheran church, in Akron, conducted by Rev. F.A. Meske. The church choir sang favorite hymns, "Have Thine Own Way, Lord," "Jesus, Saviour, Pilot Me," and "Nearer, My God, to Thee." As a last tribute of respect to the deceased and out of respect to the bereaved family, there was an assemblage of friends that far overtaxed the auditorium of the church. The basement rooms were seated and were also filled to capacity, the people there being enabled to hear the sermon and music by means of a public speaking system, it being the first time such a device had been used in a local church, and it was much appreciated. The attendance was probably the largest at any funeral ever held in Akron, more than one thousand person being conservatively estimated to have been present. A large concourse of people braved the severe cold to attend the burial rites at Riverside cemetery. Relatives and friends in attendance at the funeral from out of town were: Mr. and Mrs. H.E. Larsen and daughter, Berniece, of Storm Lake, Ia.; Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Dodge and family, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Johnson, Geo. Johnson, Mr. and Mrs. J.R. Walsh, Mrs. Ethel Tiberghein and Frances, Mr. and Mrs. O.B. Zuck, Mrs. L.E. Datesman, Mrs. Mase, Miss Howery, Miss Rewinkle, Miss Dieckroeger and Miss Blue, all of Sioux City; John Johnson, of Denver, Colo.; Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Meyer, of Mankato, Minn.; Gerhard Schluter, John Schluter, Jr., Mrs. Anna Eden and Mrs. Martha Lever, of Wolsey, S.D.; Mrs. Pauline Anderson, of Huron, S.D.; Mr. and Mrs. Hecht, of Hardwick, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Richard Lilly, of Jefferson, S.D.; Mrs. Edith Cleveland, of Sac City, Ia.
