Lowell passed away on Monday, December 22, 2008 in the Golden LivingCenter, Lake Norden, SD. Lowell, the son of Orlin & Lillie (Opdahl) Trumm, was born November 2, 1921 in Opdahl Township, Hayti, SD. He was baptized & confirmed in the New Hope Lutheran Church, rural Hayti. He attended Opdahl #1 grade school & Hayti High School. In April of 1940, Lowell joined the Civilian Conservaton Corp. He was honorably discharged on March 31, 1942. He enlisted in the US Navy on November 3, 1942. He attended Diesel Repair School & served aboard a naval warship. He was stationed in the South Pacific for 26 months on the Island of Es Bardo Santos. Lowell was honorably discharged on February 15, 1946 & had attained the rank of Motor Machinist 1st Class. He returned to the Trumm home place. On April 12, 1952, Lowell married Alma Bernice Storhaug of Erwin, SD at Pipestone, MN. In Oct of 1992, they moved into their present home in Hayti. Lowell was employed as custodian at both the Hamlin County Courthouse & the Hamlin School. He also drove the school bus for 13 years. In Dec of 1983, Lowell suffered a brain aneurysm & retired at the the of 62. He was member of the Hayti Lutheran Church & a past member of the American Legion. He loved to pheasant hunt & square dance. Throughout his life he loved to work outside in the garden & care for his lawn. His greatest love was his family. Lowell is survived by his wife of 56 years, Alma, of Hayti, SD; 1 daughter, Janice & her husband, Kevin Braden, of Bennington, NE; 1 daughter-in-law, Karen Trumm, of Hayti, SD; 1 sister, Nelda Thompson of Watertown, SD; 1 brother, Charles Trumm of Hayti, SD; & 6 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; 1 sister, Dorothy Torgrude; 1 brother, Donald Trumm; & his only son, Stanley Lowell Trumm who died at the age of 46 on Nov 21, 2004.
