Funeral services were held Tuesday, November 26 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Anthon with Rev. David Hogan officiating. Honorary pallbearers were Frank Bernard, Kenneth Depew, Coleman Lund, Art Christianson and Clarence Christianson. Newman was born July 19, 1918, at Mapleton, Iowa, the son of Oathie and Laura (Crum) Newman. He served his country with the United States Army during World War II from 1942 to 1946. On February 17, 1942, Loyd Married May Reinbold at Anthon. His life work included farming in the Anthon area along with trucking for over 20 years. Survivors include his wife May of 50 years, his mother, Laura Newman of Correctionville, four daughters and their husbands, Mary and Don Cogley of Bakersfield, California, Julie and Bob Kerns of Anthon, Annette and Bob Cloud of Oto, and Delora and Mike Fath of Des Moines; a son, Larry Newman and Marty of Colorado Springs, Colorado; twelve grandchildren, four great grandchildren, one sister, Irene Newell of Correctionville, along with a host of other relatives and friends. Loyd was preceded in death by his father, one granddaughter Allissa, and three brothers, Harry, Leonard and Harold Newman.
