Spargur of Omaha, formerly a resident of Villisca, was held here Tuesday of last week at the Wolfe & tourney funeral home. He died on his 40th birthday, December 20, 1929, from injuries sustained ten days previous to that date. Mr. Spargur, who was employed as a truck driver, was uploading coal through a coal hole in the sidewalk in front of a building in Omaha when the accident occurred. Theoperator of a steam shovel working on the building which was being erected nest to the building front of which Mr. Spargur was dumping his load of coal, lost control of the shovel which swung over agains Mr. Spargur, hitting him in the back as he bent over his work and crushing hm against his truck. Mr. Spargur was taken to the St. Joseph hospital in Omaha where he underwent an operation, but he was unable to withstand the internal injuries which he sustained in the accident, and after ten days his suffering was relieved by death. He was born at Villisca, December 20, 1889, and was the only son of Mr. and Mrs. Phillip Spargur, both of whom are deceased. He was married to Thyrza Curtis of Villisca on May 10, 1915 and to them were born two daughters, both of whom with the mother survive. The daughter are Emma Louise, 13, and Mary Jane, 12. Mr. Spargur left Villisca 10 years ago. He was a resident of Omaha during the two moths previous to his death. His body was accompanied to Villisca by his wife and children and was taken to the Wolfe & Gourley funeral home wirer it remained until the funeral service. Mr. Spargur served eight months in the United State Army, during the World War, and the local post of the American Legion had charge of his funeral. The sermon was preached by Rev. Geo. A. Lawton who served as chaplain during the war. The singing was by florence Enarson and Marjorie Shane, with Helen Jolliffe at the piano and the pall bearers were Harry Himiller, John Smith, Scott Smith, Leslie Watts, Orville Wagaman, and Geo. Higgins. A firing squad from Company F. fired there volleys over the grave in the Villisca Cemetery, and Max Roth blew taps. The members of the firing squad were Ed Smith, Elwin Day, LaVerne Shreve, Leland Devine, George Larson, Leonard Kelley, Orville Marsh, and Max Roth. Those who came from a distance to attend the funeral were Mrs. Lucile Malstrom and son Osmer, Mrs. Guy Higgins, Merle Woods, and Wm Kishigo of Omaha and Mrs. Hattie Dupont and daughter June of St. Joseph, Missouri.
