Edward was a Sargent on the Lexington Alarm Roll - Captain Fletcher's company of Minute men -Col. Doolittle's regiment which marched from Templeton April 19 1775. He served 8 days and he and others signed a payroll near Charlestown dated 8 June 1775. He was in the same company at Charlestown 6 October 1775. These services included that Battle of Bunker Hill. Edward's second enlistment was on 1 January 1777 as lieutenant in Captain Joseph Morse's company - Colonel Rufus Putnam's regiment, and saw action near Saratoga, New York including the surrender of General Burgoyne and his 6000 men. On December 1777 Edward was sent to winter quarters at Half Moon, New York (near Albany) and there received a smallpox vaccination, which proved fatal, and he died 26 December, 1777 at age 38 never having been wounded. ________________________________________ *recorded Walpole & Templeton
