Andrews of Aberdeen, Maryland, was born in Cuba, Kan., son of Charles Albert and Viola Hicks Andrews, and died September 16, 1981 at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D. C. He was 72. He began his military career by joining the Army at Ft. Riley, Kans., in March 1934. He was transferred to the Ordinance School in July, 1940. Andrews of Aberdeen, Maryland, was born in Cuba, Kan., son of Charles Albert and Viola Hicks Andrews, and died September 16, 1981 at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D. C. He was 72. He began his military career by joining the Army at Ft. Riley, Kans., in March 1934. He was transferred to the Ordinance School in July, 1940. During World War II he received a direct commission as second lieutenant, USAR, and was Chief of Military Personnel at Aberdeen Proving Grounds. In 1953 he graduated from the Command and General Staff College at Ft. Leavenworth, Kans. He did tours of duty to Camp Shilo, Canada, Germany and Korea. At the time of his retirement on March 31, 1956, he was Post Adjutant and retired as Lieutenant Colonel. He was a member of the Aberdeen Masonic Lodge No. 187 AF & AM; a 32nd degree Mason (Scottish Rite) and member of the Boumi Temple in Baltimore and the Susquehanna Shrine Club, the Sojourners Chapter 221 and the Associated Camp of Heroes-76 at Aberdeen Proving Ground; a member of the Retired Officers Association, the IOOF Lodge in Junction City; the Chesapeake Amateur Radio Club and the military affiliated radio system; a member of the Grace Methodist Church. He was the husband of Helen Eubanks Andrews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister; two brothers. He is survived by his wife; a son, T. James Andrews, Sr., of Aberdeen; a brother, Charles S. Andrews, Cuba; two sisters, Opal Hoover of Cuba and Louetta Carpenter, Lincoln, Nebr.; three grandchildren. Masonic services were held at Grace United Methodist Church, September 18. Funeral services were at the Grace United Methodist Church, September 19, the Revs. J. Edward Chance and C. Douglas Cooney conducting the service. Graveside services at the Bel Air Memorial Gardens were under the direction of the Aberdeen Proving Ground.
