She was born March 9, 1939, to Asa Ray and Louise Peters St. Clair in Jefferson, IA. LuAnn graduated from Jefferson High School in 1957 and from Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines, IA, as a registered nurse in 1960. She married Friend K. Bechtel of rural Ackworth, IA, in 1961. She was born March 9, 1939, to Asa Ray and Louise Peters St. Clair in Jefferson, IA. LuAnn graduated from Jefferson High School in 1957 and from Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines, IA, as a registered nurse in 1960. She married Friend K. Bechtel of rural Ackworth, IA, in 1961. Starting as a surgical nurse in Jefferson, IA, LuAnn finished her nursing career at Pullman Memorial Hospital in Pullman, WA, and as an oversight nurse for Whitman County, WA. LuAnn was mother of three sons: Eric (Trish) of Moscow, ID, Hans of Albuquerque, NM, and Mark (Julie) of Elk River, MN. She was grandmother to seven: Daniel, Rachel, Friend, Odrey, Hunter, Chlotielde and Lorna. She was host mother to a dozen foreign exchange students. Always cheerful, LuAnn made many friends. She enjoyed singing, dancing, baking, gardening and canning. She could not pass up a garage sale. LuAnn also enjoyed traveling, often with her husband on business trips. She was preceded in death by her parents and an infant brother. She is survived by her husband, sons and grandchildren. Funeral arrangements are by Hennessey Funeral Home in Spokane. Private burial is planned for Peone Cemetery, Mead, WA, Saturday, August 16, 2014. A memorial service is planned for 3 p.m. the same day at Holy Cross Lutheran Church at 7307 N. Nevada Street, Spokane, WA 99208. Longtime family friend, Pastor Mike Musegades, will officiate. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Campership Fund at the church.
