Highland Recorder July 9, 1959 Neil Lucian Homer Neil, 70, of Headwaters, died Sunday, July 5 at University Hospital. Death was caused by a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. A farmer and former employee of the State Highway Department, he was a son of the late Samuel (Bud) Nell and had lived all his life in Highland and Augusta Counties. Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Blanche Devericks Neil, and ten children: Mrs. Ralph Hammer, Monterey; Mrs. Cora Lee Drum, Wayland, N.Y.; Miss Gladys Neil, Baltimore, Md; Mrs. Evelyn Pugh, Winchester; Mrs. Sallie Mae Kramer, Stevens City; Mrs. Elizabeth Haymes, Charlottesville; Burton Neil, Baltimore, Md.; Marshall Neil, USN, San Francisco; Victor Neil, Goshen; and Robert Neil, Annandale. Surviving also is a sister, Myrtle Rexrode, Spring City, Pa.; and four brothers: Samuel W. Neil, Norristown, Pa.; R.G. Neil. Covington; Wallace Neil, Spring City, Pa.; and Arthur Neil, Staunton. 13 grandchildren also survive. Funeral services were held Tuesday at; 2 p.m. at Headwaters Presbyterian Church. Dr W. O. Rhoad, assisted by Rev. E. Lee Chattin, officiated. Burial was in Headwaters Cemetery with Obaugh Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
