Read More	WOMAN DIES IN FIRE AT EAST PRAIRIE East Prairie, Feb. 20, 1930 -- Mrs. Cinda Blaese, 80 years old, wife of Rev. M. M. Blaese, pioneer Methodist preacher here, was burned to death at 12:15 o'clock this afternoon in a fire which destroyed their five-room frame residence. Mrs. Blaese failed to escape from the burning dwelling as she sought to save $770 in silver and gold coins stowed away in the house. Her body, charred beyond recognition, was found near where a door had been and it is presumed she was overcome by smoke in attempting to escape from the burning dwelling. The blaze destroyed everything in the residence. It was not until the entire structure was blazing that it was discovered Mrs. Blaese was missing. The aged couple resided in the residence at the edge of town and also shared their home with Miss Margaret Presson, a niece. Mrs. Blaese and Miss Presson were burning off dead grass from a strawberry patch on the property when they noticed the roof of the dwelling had caught fire, presumably from sparks. To Second Floor. Both hurried into the house and to the second floor where the elderly couple kept a trunk in which was stored the family valuables. Miss Presson warned her aunt to leave the second floor, and she consented, so Miss Presson went downstairs and from the building, supposing that her aunt also was doing the same. Later it was discovered that she had been unable to escape. It was thought by neighbors who rushed to aid, that the elderly woman had tumbled in the smoke and probably had been injured in the fall, preventing her from escaping from the burning building. Later when the trunk was found and opened, a total of $770 was found, $700 in silver currency and $70 in gold, which had not been injured by the flames. This money had been hidden away for sometime out of the savings of the aged couple. Husband Escapes. Rev. Blaese escaped from the burning building, although he was practically invalid. Both the elderly persons had been failing in health for sometime and were cared for by their niece. They had no near relatives. The aged man was not told of his wife's death for several hours after the fire. Rev. J. C. Montgomery of Cape Girardeau, presiding elder of the Cape Girardeau district of Methodist churches, a life-long friend of the aged couple, this afternoon made arrangements to go to East Prairie at the request of the aged minister. Rev. Blaese is now on the super-annuate list of the Methodist ministers. Mrs. Blaese was reared in the vicinity of East Prairie, and lived elsewhere at different times with her husband, who had seen service abroad in the ministry.
