HARKNESS TUESDAY, FEB. 9 Rites Held Monday For Longtime Resident Of This Community After an extended illness, Mrs. Asa Harkness, a long-time resident of Akron, passed away Tuesday evening February 9, in the Leeds Nursing Home, Sioux City, where she had resided for about 14 months. HARKNESS TUESDAY, FEB. 9 Rites Held Monday For Longtime Resident Of This Community After an extended illness, Mrs. Asa Harkness, a long-time resident of Akron, passed away Tuesday evening February 9, in the Leeds Nursing Home, Sioux City, where she had resided for about 14 months. She was 79 years, 6 months and 6 days of age. Lucy Remington was born August 3, 1880 at Webster City, la. She went with her parents to Vermillion, S.D. She was married to Asa Harkness at Vermillion on April 5, 1897. They moved to a farm near Akron, la., where they resided until moving to town in 1914. They became residents of the nursing home 14 months ago, where .Mr. Harkness died March 27, 1959. Mrs. Harkness was a member of the First Baptist church and Ladies Aid society in Akron. Survivors include a son, Lowell, of Sioux City; three daughters, Mrs. Frances Lloyd, of Snohomish, Wash.; Mrs. Helen Rozell, of Everett, Wash.; and Mrs. Esther Dimmick of Hawarden, Iowa; a brother, Norman Remington, of Birmingham, Wash.; three sisters, Mrs. Jurash Bush, of Alpha, Wash.; Mrs. Libby Visnow, of Spokane, Wash., and Mrs. Rhoda Tabey, of Medicine Hat, Canada, 15 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Monday at 10:30 a.m. in Akron First Baptist church, Rev. Paul Williams officiating. Mrs. Hugh Swift was soloist and Mrs. Elmer Fickbohm was accompanist.
