Lucy Bethene Pangle Cook was born to Charles Pangle and Nellie (Price) Pangle in Geneva, on June 15, 1916. She passed away on May 6, 1993, at Monclair Nursing Center in Omaha at the age of 76 years, 10 months and 21 days. She grew up on the family farm outside of Geneva, the younger of two daughters. On May 6, 1936, she married George Henry Cook, whose family farmed near Fairmont. At that time, he was working with the Federal Emergency Relief Administration. Immediately following the wedding, they left Nebraska to settle in Washington, D.C., where, after completing secretarial college, she secured a position working for the Undersecretary of War. In 1942, George was transferred to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers office in Omaha, where they made their home for the rest of their lives. She continued to work for the U.S. Government until they began their family. In 1948 their daughter Stephanie was born, followed by the birth of their son, George Jr., in 1950. She remained at home, a strong support for her family, for the rest of her life. Following George's retirement, George and Bethene travelled through much of the United States, and spent a great deal of time tracing and researching the genealogy of their families. Bethene was preceded in death by her husband; she died on what would have been their 57th anniversary. Also preceding her in death were her parents, and her sister Berniece. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Stephanie and Darrell Petska; son and daughter-in-law, George Jr., and Lynna Gene; five grandchildren, Hillary, Nicholas, Courtney, Carolyn and Allison. A visitation was held in Omaha of Friday, May 7, followed the next day by another period of visitation in Geneva. A graveside service was conducted by George H. Cook Jr., who serves as a pastor in Lincoln. Interment was in the Geneva Public Cemetery. The Nebraska Signal unknown date.
