Description	:	MERRYMAN, LUCY ELIZABETH—Lucy Elizabeth Fisher Merryman was born to John H. Fisher and Lucy Givens Fisher on Dec. 14, 1909, at Firth, and passed away Jan. 30, 1998, at Las Vegas, Nev., at the age of 88 years, 1 month and 16 days. She was one of seven children in the family. Lucy lived in Firth and graduated from high school in 1927. After her graduation, she taught school in Martland and Shickley communities for eight years. Lucy lived in Firth and graduated from high school in 1927. After her graduation, she taught school in Martland and Shickley communities for eight years. Lucy was married to Maynard Merryman of Martland on May 22, 1935, and to them two children were born. They joined the United Brethren Church in Martland in 1935. They were involved in Sunday school, youth programs, and in helping student pastors who preached at Martland and attended York College. They later joined the United Methodist Church in Shickley when the Evangelical merged into the United Methodist. They farmed northeast of Shickley for many years until Maynard retired from active farming in 1978. They remained on the farm and enjoyed travelling for many years. Lucy moved to Shickley into a new duplex in 1997. She was very active in church her entire life, and had many friends in the community. Lucy was preceded in death by her parents, John and Lucy Fisher; her husband, Maynard; three brothers, Gaylord, Samuel and John Fisher; three sisters, Bertha Glee, Viola Trumble and Frances McGillis. She is survived by her daughter, Joan, and husband, Bernard Miller; son, Don Merryman and wife, Edith; four grandchildren, James Miller and wife, Lynnelle, Beth and husband Robert Webb, and Jeffrey Merryman and Jennifer Merryman; five great-grandchildren, Jameson and Huntington Miller, Austin Spurling, Patrick Webb and Andrew Webb; and by two sisters-in-law, Doris Fisher and Elsie Fisher. Funeral services were conducted from the United Methodist Church in Shickley, on Wednesday, Feb. 4, 1998, with Pastor C. William Bicket officiating. Stanley Johnson provided prelude and postlude music for the service, and the Salem Mennonite Mixed octet sang “Shall We Gather at the River,” “God Will Take Care of You” and “The Last Mile of the Way.” Casket bearers were James Miller, Jeff Merryman, Bob Webb, Chris Green, Verl Mulder and Ray Mulder. Honorary bearers were Austin Spurling, Andrew and Patrick Webb, Jameson Miller and Huntington Miller. Interment was in the Geneva Public Cemetery. The Nebraska Signal Feb. 11, 1998 page 13.
