Borst, of Culpeper county, Va., was overcome with the deepest grief and sorrow, such as can only be caused by the sad departure from this life of a loving wife and devoted mother. After an illness of only about a week she became the victim of what the doctors said was paralysis, a second stroke being fatal. A cure for this is said to be unknown to medical science. Interment took place in the family burying ground at Stevensburg, Va., near the Baptist church with which she became identified some years ago, a number of friends and relatives attending, among whom were a niece and nephew of Monterey, Mrs. Charles Lunsford and Mr. R. B. Campbell. Other near relatives of Highland county, are a niece, Mrs. Jacob Hevener of Hightown and also members of the Slaven families, related through the mothers branch of the family, also of Highland county, a half brother, Dr. H.S. Fleisher, and step-mother Hannah Fleiser, reside at Renick, W. Va. The older citizens of Highland and Monterey remember Mrs. Borst, then Lucy J. Fleisher, the pretty daughter of the late Adam H. Fleisher of Monterey, where Mr. Borst met and soon afterward married her, moving to Culpeper Co., Va., in which County they lived almost continuously to the present time. Mr. Borst at the time of meeting Miss Fleisher was in Monterey in the interest of a railroad which the older residents recall as being the one proposed to begin at Tidewater and run westerly to a point at or west of Monterey, and while this road was never completed, evidence of the grading and construction may be seen to this day along the Staunton-Parkersburg turnpike between Stauton and Monterey. Highland Recorder February 9, 1923 Mrs. Lucy Borst died at her home in Culpeper county on Thursday night, Feb. 3th, death being due to a second stroke of paralysis., the first occurring several months ago. Mrs. Borst was born in Monterey, in 1854, daughter of the late Adam H. and Rachel Fleisher and was the last surviving member of that branch of her father’s family, Dr. H. S. Fleisher of Falling Spring, W. Va., being a half brother. She grew to young womanhood in Monterey, and is remembered by all of the older-residents of the town as a girl of lovable, sweet disposition. Her marriage to Charles M. Borst took place about the year 1875, since which time her home has been in Culpeper. She is survived by her husband, who has been an invalid for many years, and three sons and three daughters. Mrs. C. M. Lunsford, a niece, and R. B. Campbell, nephew, both of this place, attended the funeral which took place Saturday afternoon.
