Lydia Mary Zvonek was born November 1, 1919, to John and Anna (Betick) Zvonek at Huron, S.D. Her parents had immigrated from Czechoslovakia in the early 1900s, and her given name was Ludmilla. She attended Whiteside and Wessington schools and Wessington Springs College. She married Richard Bose August 29, 1945, at Pierre, S.D. They made their home on the farm north of St. Lawrence all their married lives. She taught in rural schools in Hand and Beadle Counties, often riding a horse to school. Early in the 1950s, Lydia and Richard committed their lives to the Lord, accepting him as their Savior and they faithfully served Him all their lives. Lydia always had love and devotion to the Native peoples of South Dakota, and gave in ministry and time to the communities of Lower Brule, Ft. Thompson and Cherry Creek. Lydia loved her family and friends, horses, flying with her husband, and traveling. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Richard of St. Lawrence; one daughter and son-in-law, Judi and Dave VanHeuvelen, Chamberlain; three grandchildren, Dawne and Matt Olson of Vermillion, Dave and Laura VanHeuvelen of St. Peter, Minn., and Joy and Bryan Wedan of North St. Paul, Minn.; seven great-grandchildren, Garret, Cody, Grace and Michaela Olson, and Christopher, Hannah and Taylor VanHeuvelen; two sisters, Mrs. Warren (Elsie) Biegler, Rapid City, and Mrs. Stan (Joanne) Humphrey, Michigan City, Ind.; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Adela (Mrs. Marwin) Brown; a brother Wilmer; and an infant brother, Edward.
