She was born Nov. 14, 1905, to William E. and Nancy (Blackwood) Kesterson at Dierks, Ark., where she was raised and attended school. Townsend, 89, a longtime resident of the Wenatchee Valley, died Thursday, Oct. 5, 1995, at her home following an extended illness. She was born Nov. 14, 1905, to William E. and Nancy (Blackwood) Kesterson at Dierks, Ark., where she was raised and attended school. She married Lewis Monroe Townsend on Dec. 10, 1922, in Howard County, Ark. They made their first home at Dierks, Ark., where they farmed. They moved to Whitesboro, Texas, in the mid-1930s, where they continued farming. They moved to Moses Lake in the mid-1940s, where they operated a mobile home park. Mr. and Mrs. Townsend moved to East Wenatchee in the late 1950s and owned and operated an orchard until 1975, when they sold the orchard and retired. Following the death of her husband in 1981, Mrs. Townsend moved to Wenatchee. She was a volunteer with the Salvation Army. Survivors include a son, L.D. of East Wenatchee; three daughters, Mrs. Jim (Clara) Carlson of Wenatchee, and Josephine "Jo" Pate and Juanita Richardson, both of East Wenatchee; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, three sisters and a grandson. Arrangements are by Telford's Chapel of the Valley, East Wenatchee.
