His father homesteaded near Amherst in 1907. He attended school near Amherst from 1909 until 1917, when he began farming with his brothers and for his mother, who had been widowed on November 22, 1908. KROPP RITES NOVEMBER 1 Luther Herman Kropp, son of Fred William and Anna Petau Kropp was born October 25, 1903, in Pierce County, Nebraska. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church. His father homesteaded near Amherst in 1907. He attended school near Amherst from 1909 until 1917, when he began farming with his brothers and for his mother, who had been widowed on November 22, 1908. In 1941, he and Hazelmarie Lammers were married and they had a daughter, Lee. On January 13, 1979, he and Charlene Schroeder were united in marriage. Lute had made his home in Holyoke since 1953, but continued to farm in the Amherst area all of his life. One of his greatest sources of pride was the land he had farmed continuously since he had been a boy, and especially the wheat it produced. From 1938 to 1965, he was on the Board of Directors of the Amherst Co-Op Elevator, serving as President thirteen years. He served on the Holyoke Cemetery Board several years. He had been a member of the Holyoke Gun Club and had been one of the organizers of Club 25, presently serving as President of the Board. In October 1949 he joined the Methodist Church in Holyoke; he was a lifetime member of BPOE Elks Number 1336. In 1962 he was Worshipful Master of Holyoke Masonic Lodge, and served as Worthy Patron of the Order of Eastern Star in 1966. He was presently serving as Worthy Patron with his wife Charlene. Lute enjoyed many activities, including bridge, golf, bowling, and traveling around the world, having visited such unusual places as India, Egypt, Kenya and Peru. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, and a brother. He is survived by his wife, Charlene, his daughter and son-in-law, Lee and Jay Renfrow and their children, Seadon and Stephanie, all of Colorado Springs; his stepchildren, Lelani and Gary Sperber, of Holyoke and Rochelle and Rick Smith of Chachilla, California, and step grandchildren, Shawn, Eric, and Mark Sperber, also Amy Smith; and his brothers, Fred and Ed Kropp, many nieces and nephews and many, many friends. Interment was at the Holyoke Memorial Park.
