The Topeka Daily Capital, Friday, Sunday, June 18, 1944; p. 12A Luther Barrett is Dead; Was Welfare Worker Luther Martin Barrett, employed by the Shawnee County Welfare Board, died Saturday morning at his home at 428 Franklin. A life-long resident of Topeka, he was a traveling shoe salesman forty years, twenty-five of which were for the F. Mayer Boot and Shoe Company of Milwaukee, Wis. He was steward at the Boys Industrial School five years. Barrett was born October 23, 1871, in Topeka, and after completing his education, taught school for a number of years. He was a member of the St. Johns Lodge, No. 25, AF & AM, Omaha Neb.; the Scottish Rite Bodies, Consistory No. 1, Topeka; Media Grotto, and United Commercial Travelers. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Bertha Barrett; two sons, F. F. Barrett, Topeka, and James Barrett, Oklahoma; one brother, William Barrett, Richland, Kan.; seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Services will be held at 3:30 o'clock Monday afternoon, at Wall-Diffenderfer's and burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery.
