The Topeka Daily Capital. March 3, 1930. Page 1. OLIVER BARRETT DEAD Had been in Business Here for Many Years. Oliver C. Barrett, 49, of 1331 Tyler street, died at 9:30 o'clock Sunday night. Death resulted from complications following the influenza. He had been ill since last October. Mr. Barrett was well known in business circles in Topeka. He was born in Eskridge and came to Topeka with his parents 40 years ago. For 20 years, he was associated with the Payne Shoe Co. He left that company in 1923 to enter the coal business in which he was engaged four years. In January, 1927, he opened a shoe store which he operated a few months and afterward sold it. He has been associated with the Capital Gas & Electric Co. for the past two years. He was a member of the Slioam lodge No. 225, A.F. & A.M., the Topeka Consistory No. 1, Scottish Rite, and the Abdallah Shrine. He is survived by his wife and four brothers, L.M. and B.F. Barrett, Topeka; E.S. Barrett, Hutchinson, and William Barett, Simla, Colo.
