Read More	The Daily Telegram (Columbus), December 3, 1940, p. 1, col. 7 Death Comes to Miss Lyda McMahon, 68 Former Superintendent of State Girls’ School, Hospital Matron Following an illness of three years’ duration, Miss Lyda Jane McMahon, 68, who for nearly 20 years was superintendent of the Nebraska State Industrial School for Girls at Geneva, died at 9:20 p.m. yesterday at the state hospital in Hastings, where she was a patient for four months. For two years before entering the hospital she lived here with her sister-in-law, Mrs. M. T. McMahon, sr. Shortly before entering the hospital she suffered a stroke, and since that time she was in a precarious condition. The immediate cause of her death was heart disease and uremia. Was Teacher The daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John C. McMahon, she was born in Columbus Sept. 14, 1872. She received her early education in the Catholic parochial school here and later attended school in Omaha. Shortly after the turn of the century, she went to Geneva to become sewing teacher at the industrial school. A short time later she was made superintendent. In January, 1922, she was accepted the position of superintendent at at the Kansas State Industrial School for Girls at Beloit. While there she suffered a sun stroke and she was in poor health for about a year. Returning to Nebraska, she located in Lincoln and lived there for about 10 years. Returned Here At the close of that period she reentered public life and was employed in government clerical work in Omaha and Grand Island. In 1936 she went to Norfolk to become matron at the state hospital. In 1938 her health started to fail, and she returned to Columbus to make her home. She was a devout member of the Catholic church. Funeral Thursday Surviving are her sister, Miss Mary McMahon of Columbus her sister-in-law, Mrs. M. T. McMahon, sr., of Columbus, and two nephews, M. T. McMahon, 2d, of Lincoln, and John C. McMahon of Columbus. Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Bonaventure’s Catholic church, with Rev. Fr. J. J. Brogger, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the Catholic cemetery. The body will be removed from the Gass Funeral home tomorrow afternoon to the home of her sister-in-law, Mrs. M. T. McMahon, sr., 3009 Thirteenth street, where it will lie in state until the hour of the funeral. ______ December 4, 1940, p. 8, col. 1 & 2 To Recite Rosary – Friends of the late Miss Lyda McMahon will recite the rosary at 7:30 p.m. today at the home of Mrs. M. T. McMahon, sr., 3009 Thirteenth street. Rev. Colman Borgard, assistant pastor at St. Bonaventure’s church, will lead the prayer. _________ December 6, 1940, p. 5, col. 5 McMahon Funeral Thursday – Funeral services for Miss Lyda McMahon, 68, who died Monday were held at 9;30 a.m. yesterday at St. Bonaventure’s church. Rev. J. J. Brogger, pastor, officiated. Burial was in Catholic cemetery. Pallbearers were John C. and Lawrence Byrnes, Arden D. Wolf, E. C. Kavanaugh, Con Keating and G. B. Speice. Mr. and Mrs. Mark T. McMahon of Lincoln were here for the services.
