(Kramp) Ahrens, was born January 4, 1901, on a farm near Kiowa, Nebraska. She was raised on the family farm and attended Bethlehem Lutheran Parochial School at Kiowa. She was baptized January 13, 1901, and confirmed on March 28, 1915, by Pastor Johann Meyer at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church. On Janaury 15, 1925, at the Salem Lutheran Church, by Rev. P.E. Stolz, she was united in marriage to Arthur F. Grummert. This union was blessed with two sons, Raymond and Dale. Art and Lydia lived and farmed their entire lives in the Superior area. She was a 65 year member of Salem Lutheran Church and Circle I of Women of the Church. Her favorite and most enjoyable hours were spent quilting. She was a loving mother and grandmother. Her love was shared by raising a foster son, Duane Ahrens. She had made her home in Superior Good Samaritan Center since February 1988. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Arthur on February 8, 1984; and five brothers, Louis, Edward, Julius, Rudolph and Adolph Ahrens. She is survived by her sons, Raymond and his wife Mary Lou of Superior, Dale and his wife Diane of Denver, Colorado; and foster son, Duane Ahrens and his wife Karla of Torrington, Wyoming; eight grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; two sisters, Frieda and her husband Albert Hoins of Waverly, Iowa, and Paul and her husband Harvey Degner of Carleton, Nebraska; nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends. Lydia was called by the Lord December 18, 1990, while a patient in Brodstone Memorial Nuckolls County Hospital in Superior, at the age of 89 years, 11 months and 14 days. Funeral services were held Thursday, December 20, 1990, from the Salem Lutheran Church, rural Superior, Nebraska, with Pastor Steve Tjarks officiating. Congregational hymns of "How Great Thou Art" and "I Know That My Redeemer Lives" were sung with Lorraine Smith as organist. Casketbearers were: Loren Ahrens, Jim Ahrens, Robert Ahrens, Merlin Degner, Leland Bargen and Steve Bargen. Burial was in the Salem Lutheran Cemetery.
