Funeral services were conducted friday at the home at 2:30 by Rev. Lew Harris of Knoxville. Internment was made in the Methodist Cemetery Lydia Ellen Fleenor oldest child of Thomas* & Ellen+ Fleenor was born October 7 1833 in Rush County Indiana, later imigrated to Mt. Pleasant Iowa were her mother died & were she kept house for her father at the age of 10 years and looked after the 5 children in the home. On October 14 1852 she married Oliver M Newhouse and to this union 3 children were born of whom 1 Le Roy Newhouse of Pamona California, still survives. Her 1st Husband died May 1 1860. On April 13 1863 she married Joseph Peregrine in Page County Iowa. T this union 6 children were born: Edward of Mudd Butte South Dakota; Walter at home; Homer of Clay Center Nebraska; Adne Parcher of Ferndale Washington; Mary of Flint Michigan; Olive Harvey of Clay Center Nebraska. Grandmother Peregrine passes away from this life May 2 at 11:00 P.M. aged 91 years 5 months and 24 days. Thus closes a life of wonderful service, a character and a name that we always cherish, a woman strong in her conviction of faith and service to humanity. Mrs. Peregrine was a woman who could always be found serving in her quite way, the wants of her friends and aquantinces and as we mediate on the life of this true pioneer, one truth stands out above all in bold relief of her many fine characteristics and that it--her simple faith which was ever present in every phase of her long & usefull life. Truly hers was a wonderfull life teaching as it did from early struggle & privation of the pioneer.--"The Dawn of a Early Settler" in the golden Sunset of life amidst the luxories of modern day. She leaves to her family and friends a served herritage that will endure as long as life shall last. The life of this good woman was very deffinately linked with the religious history of this county as her husband Josh. Peregrine was one of the most loved circuit riders of the early Pioneer times. Mr Peregrine died Jul 1902. The friends of the early days were all gone but the friends she had gathered to her side in 90 years on Iowa soil and the 65 years in Adams county will grieve for the loss of this good woman who was usefull untill nearly the last and who's greates grief in the last days was that she could serve no longer. Those who were her from a distant to attend the funeral were; Mrs Olive Harvey and daughter, Mary Harvey of Clay Center Nebraska; Lulu Reynolds of Bloomfield Iowa; Frank Stratton(1) of Nebraska City; Fred Parcher and family of Villisca; Mrs. Paul Peregrine of Milwaukee; and Mary Peregrine of Flint Nebraska. * Records indicate her Fathers name was Thompson Daniel + Records indicate her mothers name was Mary, maybe Ellen was her middle name. (1) her Grandson & my Great Grand Father
