Read More	Wife of Sylvester Smith, daughter of Jacob Smith. ~~~~~~~~ Sudden Death of Aged Lady Mrs. Lydia Smith, aged 77 years, 11 months, and 27 days, died at the home of her son, Roy, north of Granger, Monday, January 13, at 5 p.m. She and a daughter lived in the neighborhood and, as the son had a very sick child, he had gone to his mother's home to get her that she might help take care of the child. On the way back to Roy's home, Mrs. Smith had a stroke of paralysis and had to be carried into the house, where she died a short while afterward. She is survived by five children. Funeral services were held at Mt. Moriah church Wednesday at 1:30 conducted by Rev. Harp. Memphis Reveille - Memphis, Missouri - January 16, 1930 ed. - P1, C2 ~~~~~~~ Lydia Smith was born in Van Buren County, Iowa, January 16, 1853 [1852], and departed this life January 13, 1930, aged 77 years, 11 months, and 27 days. On December 15, 1871, she was united in marriage to Sylvester Smith. Nine children were born to this union. The surviving ones are Miss Jennie, who has lived with and tenderly cared for her mother since the death of her father, Mrs. Dora Brookhart, Nampa, Idaho; Scott of Arbela; Mrs. May Rude of Cantril, Iowa; and Roy of Arbela. Her husband departed this life December 14, 1914. Four children also preceded her in death. Sister Smith was converted when quite young and identified herself with the Methodist Church to which she remained true and devoted. It always seemed to delight her when she could attend the services of God's house. Dear beloved one mothers pilgrimage of life came to, and ended suddenly. But God with his great arm of love just transplanted her on the other shore and today she is united with loved ones gone before, I am persuaded it will not be long until others will join the saint throng. Continue true to God, and when the summons to yon, you too shall find that triumphant throng. The circle which has been broken here so many times is only growing larger over there. The funeral was conducted from the Mt. Moriah Church by her pastor, Rev. J. A. Harp. The floral offerings were very beautiful. The mortal remains were placed to rest in the Mt. Moriah Cemetery. The singing was in charge of the community assisted by the choir from the Arbela Methodist Church. We commend the sorrowing ones to God who doeth all things well.
