Friends may call there until 5 p.m. today and Saturday and from noon to 6 on Sunday. Mr. Conners was born July 17, 1917, at Mason City, Iowa son of James and Martha [sic] (Actually is Anna). At age 11 he came with his parents to Minot and attended Minot High School before going to work at the Minot bakery. During World War II, he served with the Army in the Rainbow Division Tank Destroyer Unit in the South Pacific. Following discharge, he returned to Minot and was employed by the U.S. Post Office as a railway mail clerk on the Minot-Fargo route. He retired in 1974 after 35 years' service. Active in Minot and state affairs of the American Legion, he was a past commander of the Minot post and was grand chef de gare of the Legion's 40 and 8 in North Dakota in 1971-72. He was awarded a life membership in the Legion and 40 and 8, and in 1982, received the Legion award for 30 years' service as director of the organization's Color Guard Team. For 26 years, he was active in the Minot Junior Legion Baseball Program and had been its director. In 1978 he was inducted into the Legion Baseball Hall of Fame and had received numerous other Legion awards. He was a charter member and first president of the Minot World War II Last Man's Club. He also was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Elks Lodge, Knights of Columbus and St. Leo's church. He married Vernice Miller, Nov 20, 1946, in Minot. She died Aug 8, 1958. He married Edith Bondly Nov. 30, 1969, in Minot. She survives, along with a son Jerry, Minot; daughters, Janine Conners, Minot, Julane Stuart, Huffman, Texas; stepchildren, James Bondly, Pam Herrington and Sandy Derhelm, all Minot; 19 grandchildren; two great grandchildren.
