He was born July 5, 1921 in Vesuvius, a son of the late William Mangus and Leslie Ann Lamb Koogler. Mr. Koogler was a veteran of the U. S. Army Air Corps, having served in World War II. Read More	STUARTS DRAFT Lyle Eligah Koogler, 85, husband of Dorothea Friell Koogler, of 68 York Avenue, Stuarts Draft, formerly of Fairfield, died Monday, Dec. 25, 2006 at his residence. He was born July 5, 1921 in Vesuvius, a son of the late William Mangus and Leslie Ann Lamb Koogler. Mr. Koogler was a veteran of the U. S. Army Air Corps, having served in World War II. He was a lifetime member and Elder Emeritus of Mt. Carmel Presbyterian Church in Steele's Tavern. He was past District Governor of the Natural Bridge district of Ruritan National; past state president of the Virginia Farm Bureau Federation; past chairman of the Rockbridge County Board of Supervisors; a founding member and Chief of the South River District Volunteer Fire Department; founding member of the Fairfield First Aid Squad; and he was instrumental in bringing medical practice to Fairfield, building Blue Ridge Recreation Park in Fairfield, and getting the Interstate 81 interchange in Fairfield. In addition to his wife, family members include a son, Sam Koogler and his wife, Roxanne, of Fairfield; a daughter, Terry Southerington and her husband, Frank, of Staunton; three brothers, David Koogler of Texas, Thomas G. Koogler of Staunton, and Glenn M. Koogler of Raphine; a sister, Emily Schwab of Staunton; and five grandchildren, Paul Southerington, Jennifer Southerington, Margaret Southerington, Will Koogler, and Frances Koogler. He was preceded in death by a son, Edward Lyle Koogler; five brothers, William, Elmer, Louis, John, and Melvin Koogler; and two sisters, Evelyn Harris and LaRue Baber. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 28, 2006 in Mt. Carmel Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Kerry Foster. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 until 8:30 p.m. today, Dec. 27, 2006 in the Henry Funeral Home and other times at his residence. Published in The News Virginian on December 27, 2006
