Description	:	Lyle E. Engstrom, 87 of St. Edward, NE passed away Tuesday, February 21, 2012 at the Long Term Care Unit of the Genoa Community Hospital. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 24, 2012 at St. Edward United Methodist Church with Rev. D. R. "Buck" Linton-Hendrick officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery with Military Rites conducted by American Legion Crosier Post #226 of St. Edward. Visitation will be 4-7p.m. Thursday at the church. Miller-Levander Funeral Home of St. Edward is in charge of arrangements. Lyle Eugene Engstrom was born January 10, 1925, the son of Pearl Gladys (Price) Engstrom and Lester Vernon Engstrom. His mother passed away in 1928 and he was raised by his grandparents, Mary and Charles Price, on the Price farm three miles southeast of St. Edward. He attended Bogus Country School south of St. Edward through grade eight and graduated from St. Edward High School in 1943. He married Margaret Carol Williams at Fairbury, NE on September 8, 1952. To this union three daughters were born: Lyla Jo, Barbara Dianne, and Mary Kathleen. Mary passed away in 1977 from a heart attack at 20 years of age. They farmed the Price farm for 11 years then had a farm sale and moved to Idaho City, ID where Lyle worked for the Forest Service for a year. They then moved back to St. Edward and bought Henry Peterson's dairy farm at the west edge of St. Edward. Later they bought the Forrest Long farm which lay just west of the Peterson farm. During this time he farmed and worked for Mahoney Sales and Service for 23 years. He was baptized and confirmed in the Presbyterian Church at St. Edward and served several years as usher and on church board. He also served on the District 17 School Board. In his spare time, Lyle enjoyed taking part in Tractor Pulling competitions. Lyle was called up twice during the Korean War where he served honorably and proudly just as his father did in World War I and his two Marine brothers did in World War II. He was a 50 + year member of the American Legion Post 226 in St. Edward. He also served 50 + years on the Honor Guard honoring deceased Veterans. Lyle is survived his wife Carol of St. Edward, 2 daughters: Lyla (Alan) Dahms of Hastings, NE and Dianne (Weylin) Wurdeman of Columbus, NE, 4 grandchildren: Jason (Kelli) Peterson, Gina (Scott) Olson, and Kyle and Dillan Wurdeman; 5 great-grandchildren: Destiny, Justice, and Jayden Peterson, and Brandan and Virginia Olson; one sister Donna Cooper of Salt Lake City, UT and one sister-in-law Melva Gerard of Concordia, KS. He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Mary Kathleen, and two brothers: Don and Norman Engstrom.
