Description	:	Fremont Tribune Lyle "Pete" Winterburn, 83, of Omaha, died Wednesday, July 11, 2001, at Methodist Hospital in Omaha. He was born May 8, 1918 in Elkhorn. He grew up in Elkhorn, attending grade school and graduating from Elkhorn High School District 10 in 1937. He married Elaine Plambeck March 28, 1939 in Elkhorn. Read More	Fremont Tribune Lyle "Pete" Winterburn, 83, of Omaha, died Wednesday, July 11, 2001, at Methodist Hospital in Omaha. He was born May 8, 1918 in Elkhorn. He grew up in Elkhorn, attending grade school and graduating from Elkhorn High School District 10 in 1937. He married Elaine Plambeck March 28, 1939 in Elkhorn. The family lived in Chambers, then in Ericson and finally settled in Elkhorn. He worked on remodeling projects and built altars and pulpits for local churches and for a number of jobs and organizations. He worked for Robinson Seed Company, drove caterpillar at the Mead Ordnance Plant during World War II, farmed and ranched and was a real estate salesman for Taylor and Martin. They traveled in their motor home during the last 30 years. He was the Nebraska Plowing Terrace Champion in 1947. He received the Aksarben 100-year Homestead award in 1978 on the farm his grandparents homesteaded after their move from England in 1876. He was also instrumental in starting Golden Years Nursing Home and Winterburn Heights Development. He worked with the Douglas County Soil Conservation Board for 12 years, the Elkhorn School Board for 12 years and the Douglas County Mutual Insurance Board of Directors for 28 years. He was a charter member of Elkhorn VE Grange, a charter member of the Elkhorn Eagles, Master Mason and past Master with 54 years of membership in the Masonic Lodge, member of Eastern Star and Shriner Tangier Temple of Omaha, member of Scottish Rite, a 4-H leader and taught Adult Sunday School. Survivors include; his wife; a daughter, Donna (Mrs Jim) Osterchill of Elkhorn; a son, John (and wife, Kathy) Winterburn of O'Neill; a son-in-law; Stanley (and wife, Marilyn) Petersen of Fort Morgan, Colo and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter. The memorial service is 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Peace Presbyterian Church in Elkhorn. The Rev Roy Fox will officiate. Visitation is noon to 8 p.m. today at Reichmuth Funeral Home in Elkhorn. An Eastern Star Masonic Service is 7 p.m. tonight at the funeral home. Private burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery in Elkhorn.
