Casket bearers will be William Marks, Robert Marks, Bruce Patterson, Jimmy Marks, Brad Askam, Mark Tompkins, and Craig Askam. A time of food and fellowship will follow the committal service at the Church Hall. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Lyle William Marks was born on Jan. 26, 1939, in Muscatine, to Dorothy Rose Everett Marks and Leslie Irwin Marks. He was a loving son, brother, friend, husband, father and grandfather whose faith grew deeper and more resolute with every passing day. Lyle married Susabelle Drumm on May 20, 1961, In Rock Island, Ill. Together they raised five children, who produced ten grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Of his many achievements in life, which included serving his country, and attending college, Lyle’s life with Susabelle and the family that resulted from their union was his most treasured accomplishment. He loved and honored his parents and placed much importance in sharing their legacy and stories with the younger generations of the family. Lyle was a great storyteller and loved jokes primarily because he drew great delight from the sound of laughter. Blessed with a kind heart, he was a person devoted to self-reflection. He was tender with and sensitive to the feelings of others. Always he looked for the best in others and had a way of making others feel loved and accepted. For these reasons and many more, he will always be remembered and cherished by all those who knew and loved him most. Lyle is survived and well loved by his son by marriage, James Patterson and wife, Denise, of Ormond, Fla.; son, Bruce Patterson and wife, Marie, of Springfield, Mo.; daughter, Marilyn Jo (Patterson) Kelly of Bolingbrook, Ill.; son, William Marks and wife, Rita, of Springfield, Mo.; and son, Robert Marks and wife, Joanie, of Romeoville, Ill.; ten grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. He will be sorely missed by his siblings, Joann Askam and husband, Leo, of Muscatine, Patti Bohlen and husband, Dean, of Cedar Bluff, Ala., Gene Marks and his wife, Marsha, of Farmington, Mo.; Steve Marks and Pam Ramer of Muscatine, Theresa Marks Turkington and husband, Breck, of Norman, Okla.; and many nieces and nephews. Lyle had many, many life-long friends, and will be deeply missed by his special friends, Donald Kelly, Dave Lucas, and Ivan “Corkie” Martin. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Susabelle in 2009; his parents, Dorothy and Leslie; three brothers, David, James, and Donald; one sister, Frances (Marks) Duggan; and one granddaughter, Bobbie Jo Bienke.
