Lyle passed away Monday, December 7, 2015 at the Good Samaritan Center in Oakes, ND at the age of 97. Lyle Woodrow Tisher was born October 20, 1918 on the family farm in Marshall County, SD to August and Myrtle Mae (Tucker) Tisher. He grew up there and went to grade school in rural Marshall County schools, and later attended Hecla High School. After completing his education, Lyle worked on the family farm. On October 1, 1938 he was united in marriage with Wilma Irene Krause, whom he always liked to accuse of robbing the cradle by marrying him, since he was a whole month younger than her! They started farming, and over the next several years farmed in a number of different places in the Hecla area. From 1956 to 1957, they lived in Libby, MT where Lyle worked at a pole yard, manufacturing poles for pole barns. They returned to Hecla and Lyle worked for various area farmers. Over the next several years, he worked a number of different jobs including working as a salesman for Lehman, Mfg., farming for Bennett Ranch and operating the Deep Rock Station in Hecla before taking his final job with the South Dakota Highway Department. He and Wilma moved into their home in Hecla in 1970, and Lyle retired from the highway department in 1987. Together, they became residents of the Good Samaritan Center in Oakes in the winter of 2010. Wilma passed away May 1, 2013, and Lyle continued to make his home there. Lyle loved to work with wood, and had made several wooden tractors and wagons that he had given to many of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was an avid horseman, and had a repaired eleven buggies and wagons from parts that were wasting away in fields. In 1989 he was privileged to participate in a Wagon Train. Most of the Tisher family gatherings were highlighted with a buggy ride down Hecla’s Main Street. The lawn and garden at Lyle’s house were always immaculate, and he took great pride in them. He was musically inclined and enjoyed playing the saxophone and singing in a quartet. Over the years, he and Wilma had taken a number of bus trips and were able to see quite a bit of the United States. They were regulars at every Hecla home basketball game, and always sat in the same spot in the gym. He was a quiet man for the most part, but when he did speak his remarks could be surprising, often highlighted by his sense of humor. Grateful for having shared his life are six of his children: Kenneth (Mary) Tisher, Victor (Jo) Tisher, Linda “Suzy” (Mike) McKay, Timothy (Ruby) Tisher, Pauline “Polly” (Richard Henninger) Becker, Shawn (Kevin) Carlson; a daughter-in-law, Shirley Tisher; 22 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren, and 23 great-great-grandchildren. Preceding him in death were his parents, his wife, a son, Delwyn Tisher; a daughter-in-law, Beverly Tisher; a grandson, Michael McKay, Jr.; a great-great-grandson, Peyton Bray; and his six siblings: Faye Tisher, Carrie Wampler, Vera Moeller, Lewis Tisher, Les Tisher and Arnold Tisher.
