Gene is preceded in death by his parents, Henry Clay and Naomi Belle (Homer) Barnes, his sister Lydia Barnes and his son, Larry Duane Barnes. He is survived by his wife, Debby (Evans) Barnes and son Gary Eugene Barnes, wife Mary; grandchildren and great grandchildren: Christi DeGroot, husband Brian and children Anna, Eric and Marcus; Tim Barnes, wife Elisa, and daughter Paige; Elliot Barnes, wife Erica, and son Austin; Jamie Casteel, husband Jesse and children Carissa, Cheyanne, Jesse, and Hillary; and Lee Belfield, wife Marcie and children Corrine and Codi-all of Enumclaw; along with his brother Hank Barnes, sister Hazella Peterson, sister Marie Evans and husband Gomer, all of Black Diamond; and a very large family of cousins, nieces, nephews and other extended family. Gene was born in Sharon, Oklahoma on November 26,1929. He lived in Oklahoma and California in his early youth. His family moved to Black Diamond when he was 12. It was there that he attended school, met and married his wife, Debby. Gene was a member and past master of the Masonic Lodge No. 83 in Black Diamond and helped to build the current lodge building. He was a lifetime member of the Black Diamond Eagles # 1490. At one time he served as a deputy police officer in Black Diamond and as a King County Sheriff. Gene, Debby and their sons moved to Enumclaw in 1966. Gene owned and operated Barnes & Barnes Trucking for many years. He loved anything that had a steering wheel and an engine to work on. He ran dozers, backhoes and other large equipment, but was just as content driving his golf cart, tractor or riding lawn mower. In his early years Gene was well known for driving racecars, he was one of the pioneers to run stock cars on dirt tracks in Grays Harbor. Gene was an avid race fan, loved the sound and smell of sprint cars on dirt tracks and watching Nascar races. He proudly wore the #9. He also loved the game of golf and the friendships he made at Enumclaw Golf Course. Gene will be remembered for his sense of humor and ability to tease. He was always a bit of a prankster. He will be remembered most for the love he gave to so many others and what he taught them about life and living.
