Description	:	Mabel Wurdeman, 100, formerly of Creston, Nebraska, died Friday, February 28, 2020, at Emerald Care and Rehab in Columbus, Nebraska. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, March 3, at 11:30 AM, at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Creston with Rev. Michael Klatt officiating. Visitation will be on Monday, from 5:00 – 7:00 PM at Gass Haney Funeral Home, and continue on Tuesday, from 10:30 AM until service time at the church. Memorials may be directed to those of the family’s choice. Mabel A. Wurdeman was born on February 11, 1920, to Herman “Max” and Anna (Muth) Schmidt, near Columbus. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church and received her schooling at District 77 and St. John’s Lutheran grade school. She worked in a defense plant during World War II in West Allis, Wisconsin, then worked in a Lutheran Hospital for two years in Columbus as a nurse’s aide. On May 23, 1947, Mabel was united in marriage to Marvin Wurdeman at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Creston. The couple had two sons: Ivan Dale and David Allen. When her sons were in school, she did housework, hung paper and painted in many homes and churches in and around Creston. From 1965 to 1985, Mabel cooked hot lunches at the Creston Public School, where she greatly enjoyed working with the children. Mabel loved her garden and flowers, playing cards, and doing crossword puzzles. She was a faithful member of St. Peter Lutheran Church.
