Hedberg died October 13, 2010, at the Golden Living Center in Lake Norden. Mabel was born near Lake Preston on August 23, 1913, daughter of Aron R. and Martha (Olson) Hedberg, and was baptized in the North Preston Lutheran Church. Mabel is remembered by many for the years she taught Sunday school in Lake Preston. Mabel graduated from the Lake Preston High School in 1931, and taught for five years in area rural schools. Early in her life she entered into a deep and passionate relationship with Jesus, and wished to devote her life to God. She was greatly inspired by the work of world missions. This inspiration led her to Chicago where she studied to be a missionary, later receiving nurses training at the Lutheran Deaconess Home and Training School. She then moved to Minneapolis, where she spent most of her career as a Licensed Practical Nurse. Following her retirement she worked at several nursing homes, and helped with private care for individuals in Northeast Minneapolis. She was especially interested in the spiritual life of children and worked as a part-time teacher for eight years at the Bethany Academy in Bloomington, MN. She was also active at Bethany Fellowship, today known as Bethany College of Missions. In the late 1980's she volunteered at a crisis phone center. Mabel returned to Lake Preston in November 2006, and became a resident of the Kingsbury Memorial Manor, moving in July 2008 to the Golden Living Center in Lake Norden. Survivors include a sister, Alice Peterson, of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and a brother, Floyd (Mary) Hedberg of Glen Allen, Virginia, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Clarence Hedberg on April 15, 1996, and Kenneth Hedberg on June 22, 2009, and a sister Selma Hanson on March 17, 2004. The Johnson-Henry Funeral Chapel of Lake Preston is in charge of arrangements.
