Selma Louise Hedberg was born on Jan 31, 1912 to Aaron R. and Martha (Olson) Hedberg at Lake Preston, SD. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. Read More	Selma Louise Hedberg, 92, of Canton and a former Lake Preston and Oldham area resident, died Wednesday, March 17, 2004, at her home in Canton. Selma Louise Hedberg was born on Jan 31, 1912 to Aaron R. and Martha (Olson) Hedberg at Lake Preston, SD. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. Selma attended Lake Preston High School and graduated in 1930. She then attended Augustana Academy for one year and earned her teaching certificate. She taught rural country school in Kingsbury county for 9 years. On September 1, 1940, she married Allan Hanson. The couple farmed north of Lake Preston for 17 years and, in 1957, moved to Oldham, SD, where she taught school. In 1963, the family moved to Lake Preston. She graduated from Huron College in 1967; she continued teaching until her retirement in 1977. Her husband died in 1984. In 1986, she married Gordon Hanson. Mr. Hanson died in 2001. She then moved to Canton, SD. Selma was very active in her church and served as President of the Ladies Aid and taught the Bethel Bible Course. She was also a member of the Civic Club. She is survived by her two children, Dorothy (Gerald) Menholt of Canton and John Allen (Kathleen) Hanson of Brandon, SD; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers, Floyd (Mary) Hedberg of Richmond, VA and Kenneth (Elaine) Hedberg of Lake Preston, SD; 2 sisters, Alice Peterson of Albuquerque, NM and Mabel Hedberg of Minneapolis, MN; and a number of nieces, nephews, and many friends. Funeral services for Mrs. Hanson will be Sunday, March 21, 2004, at 2:00 p.m. in the Calvary Free Lutheran Church, Arlington, with Pastor Steve Mundfrom officiating. Burial will be in the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery at rural Oldham, SD. Visitation will be on Friday, March 19, 2004, from 6-8pm at the Redeemer Free Lutheran Church in Canton, SD, with a prayer service starting at 6:00 p.m., with Pastor Carl Voelkers officiating. On Saturday, visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. at the Johnson-Henry Funeral Home in Arlington, SD and before services in the church on Sunday.
