Description	:	Mabel Charlotte Headley, a life time resident of Downs, passed away Friday, July 11, 1969 in Osborne County Memorial Hospital, Osborne, Kansas. At the time of her death she was 88 years four months and 15 days of age. She is survived by one son Clifford and wife Ethel of Downs; six grandchildren; June Lindblom of Salina, Kansas; Juanita Wilcox of New Orleans, La; Ruth Harris of Kansas City, Missouri; Sergeant Howard Headley of Fort Carson, Colorado; Marvin Headley of Columbia, Missouri and Glenn Headley of Salina. She is survived by one son Clifford and wife Ethel of Downs; six grandchildren; June Lindblom of Salina, Kansas; Juanita Wilcox of New Orleans, La; Ruth Harris of Kansas City, Missouri; Sergeant Howard Headley of Fort Carson, Colorado; Marvin Headley of Columbia, Missouri and Glenn Headley of Salina. Seventeen Great grandchildren, one Great Great Grandchild, one sister - Metta Asper of Kansas City, Missouri; two brothers, Vern Asper of Colorado Springs, Colorado and Clarence Asper of Semila, Colorado. She was united in marriage to Ira Walter Headley in 1900. Her husband, one sister and three brothers preceded her in death. NOTE: following was written by Mrs. Headley to be used in her funeral Service. I was born 1 1/2 miles north of Downs and grew to womanhood in Smith County, Kansas 5 1/4 miles north of Downs. I took my apprenticeship in the Millinery trade in 1898 in Osborne, Kansas with two sisters Sarah and Minnie Mickey. Following her apprenticeship she worked in a millinery shop in Downs, Kansas. I was married February 14, 1900 on the farm 5 1/4 miles north Downs to Ira Walter Headley; our first year of married life was spent 2 1/2 miles north of Cawker City. In 1901 we moved to Ira's Grandmother's farm 6 miles north of Downs where Clifford was born. We lived there five years, then to the Jones place 3 miles NW of Downs, for three years, then to Grand Father DECK farm 2 1/2 miles NW of Downs. From there you well remember Clifford, the greatest joy of my life, after I found Christ. Chirst became my Personnel Savior and I joined the Methodist Church in 1918. I began teaching in the Sunday School with the Beginners in 1919. I taught classes of all ages up to the St. Paul Guard's Class. I saw many of them accept Christ in their Classes and in their homes. I helped organize the Junior League when Rev. J. G. Roberts was our Pastor in 1938. Some of these Leaguers later became Sunday School teachers, I rejoice in that. I have enjoyed life in the Church and in the Home Prayer Meetings. This is written in my lonely days after your Father died-Clifford.
