Mabel was born July 28, 1918, the daughter of James Cleve Darrow and Elizabeth (Hannan) Darrow in rural Langworthy. She attended school in Morley, graduating with the Class of 1936 as class valedictorian. She was married to John "Jack" Schweitzer. They later divorced. Mabel had six children, Jackie (Doyle) Whitworth, Clarence (Kay) Schweitzer, Rosalie (Gary) Ebeck, the late Dana Schweitzer, Merridy Reth and Peggy (Tom) Cobb; and stepchildren, Lila Kramer and Joyce Less. On Aug. 11, 1967, Mabel was united in marriage to Willard "Bill" Cueno, who preceded her in death in 2003. In their retirement years, Bill and Mabel enjoyed traveling the country, setting up at antique shows and flea markets and visiting all the national parks in the United States and Canada. Prior to her retirement, she worked as a store manager for Hawley Superdrug in Anamosa for more than 20 years. Mabel enjoyed working crossword puzzles, reading, designing and sewing quilts, listening to her large collection of records and collecting Precious Moments. She also cared for her flower and vegetable gardens for many years. Survivors include her children; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; one brother, Russell Darrow of Tipton; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; Richard Darrow; sister, Esther Moehl; grandsons, Dana Reth and Larry Mott; and stepson, Kenny Cueno. Mabel was cremated and will be buried at Forest Chapel Cemetery in the spring.
