Holbrook brought the sad tidings of the death of his daughter, Mrs. Mabel Bowring, at her home near Merriman, Friday, Aug. 28, 19019. Mr. and Mrs. Holbrook had been called to the bedside of their daughter a few days previously upon receiving word of her severe illness but it was not known to be of such a serious nature and that she was to be spared to her loved one but a few days more, and the sudden news was a shock to the entire community. Everything that medical skill and loved hands could do was done in endeavor that her life might be spared, but the Almighty had extended the call which must be answered by all in time. In her departure one has been taken whose life was one of never ending sunshine and happiness and while her loved ones are left to mourn there is still left with them in memory the ray of sunshine and love reflected from life while one of them. She was of affectionate disposition, bright and winning in her ways, so that friendships's circle was to her a large one. Among us all she has ranked always as a woman of culture and refinement, a true wife, daughter, sister and friend, a woman of heroic mould in every sense. Mabel Holbrook was born at Maple Creek, Dodge county, Nebr., Nov. 26, 1878, and at the time of death was 30 years and 9 months old. She joined the Methodist Episcopal church in 1897 and has ever since been a faithful and consistent Christian. She chose teaching for a vocation, and followed it for six years, having taught in this county, at Belgrade and Merriman. While at the latter place she became acquainted with Arthur Bowring and they were happily married on January 22, 1909. Beside the sorrowing husband and parents there are left to mourn her death three sisters, Mrs. Wm. Hough, Mrs. D. F. Head and Miss Ethel Holbrook, and one brother, Frank Holbrook, all of whom have the sympathy of the entire community extended them in their great bereavement. The remains were shipped to Hooper, arriving here Sunday morning, and funeral services were held Sunday afternoon from the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Hough, conducted by Rev. C. O. Trump, and interment took place in the Hooper cemetery.hhw
