MABEL JULIA SHRADER Pawnee City received a severe shock Saturday when it became known that Miss Mabel Shrader had died early that morning at her home here. Miss Shrader suffered a heart block Friday evening and succumbed in a few hours. For many years she had been an employe of the local post office and her pleasant manner and accommodating spirit made every patron of the office her friend. Funeral services were held at the First Baptist church Tuesday afternoon, Rev. W. N. Wallis officiating, and her body was laid to rest by that pf her mother in the family plot in the Pawnee City cemetery. Mabel Julia Shrader, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Van B. Shrader, was born at Baileyville, Kan., Nov. 4, 1888, and passed away at her home in Pawnee City Jan. 22, 1944, at the age of 55 years, 2 months and 18 days. At an early age she came to Pawnee City with her parents, where she made her home with them, lovingly caring for them until their passing away, and continuing the family home until called to her reward. A graduate of the local schools, she prepared herself for teaching by attending normal school, and taught some years in the Burchard and Pawnee City schools. She then took the civil service examinations and served faithfully in the Pawnee City post office for many years, being on duty up to the day of her death. She was a member and past noble grand of the Rebekah lodge, I.O.O.F. At an early age she confessed Christ as her Savior and joined the First Baptist church of Pawnee City, being a faithful member throughout her life, serving as missionary treasurer and Sunday school teacher for many years. While not in the best of health for some time, she gave her entire thought and effort to her loved ones, her church and her work. Here indeed has passed a life of service to others, and while her loss will be felt grievously by her family and friends, we will all rejoice in the knowledge that she has entered upon a glorious reward for her unselfish service and loyalty to her loved ones. She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Arthur, William and Oliver, and two sisters, Mary Edna, who died in infancy, and Mrs. Porter Copenhaver. She leaves to mourn her loss two sisters, Mrs. Fred Haley of Palmyra and Mrs. Ralph Morris of Pawnee City, and brother, Myron R. Shrader of Nebraska City, other relatives and many friends.
