Description	:	Mabel Ruth Eidsheim, 94, died Sunday, January 27, at the Canton-lnwood Memorial Hospital. Mabel Ruth (Markle) Eidsheim was born May II, 1907 in Webb City. Missouri, the daughter of Charles and Maude (Stukey) Markle. She grew up in the Ozark Mountains and moved to South Dakota with her parents and seven brothers and sisters when she was I4 years old. Read More	Mabel Ruth Eidsheim, 94, died Sunday, January 27, at the Canton-lnwood Memorial Hospital. Mabel Ruth (Markle) Eidsheim was born May II, 1907 in Webb City. Missouri, the daughter of Charles and Maude (Stukey) Markle. She grew up in the Ozark Mountains and moved to South Dakota with her parents and seven brothers and sisters when she was I4 years old. Her family lived on a farm south of Canton, where Mabel continued her education at Moe Rural School. She married lvar Eidsheim July 30, 1928 at Viborg, SD. He died April 25, 1953. Mabel had a busy life, but was happy because it was busy. To help the elderly was a joy to her. Mabel was named Star Volunteer of the Year for RSVP and went to Washington, D.C. in 1974. She received a special Humanitarian Award in 1987 from the Canton Chamber of Commerce. The South Dakota Health Care Association selected Mabel as Adult Volunteer of the Year for her service to the Long Term Care Industry in September of 1994. Mabel registered with RSVP in 1973. She did volunteer work for Canton-Inwood Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, Quilting at Canton Lutheran Church for eleven years, American Cancer Society, American Red Cross, Meals on Wheels, Canton Senior Citizen's Center, and Nutrition Site. She did the mending for the Canton Good Samaritan Center and residents for thirty-three years and was called the Zipper Lady because of all the zippers she replaced. She was a member of Canton Lutheran Church and a Charter Member of the Sons of Norway. Survivors include her daughter, Joann Eidsheim, Canton, SD; one brother, Don Markle, Canton, SD; five sisters, Dorothy Eliason and Hazel Aasheim, both of Canton, SD, and Lucille Eliason, Maxine Bresee, and Betty Severson, all of Sioux Falls, SD; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be at 2 PM Thursday, January 31st at Canton Lutheran Church, with burial at Forest Hill Cemetery near Canton. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4 to 8 PM at Anderson Funeral Home in Canton, with family present from 7 to 8 PM.
