The Superior Express, Thursday, 27 December 1990 ------------------------------------------- Mabel Tessibel Duey, daughter of Axel and Kate Rosanna (Kent) Norlund, was born September 15, 1917, on a farm near Wayne, Kansas. Tess passed away December 24, 1990 in her home in Nelson, Nebraska at the age of 73 years, 3 months and 9 days. She was raised on the family farm and attended school in Wayne, Kansas. On December 30, 1936, in Wayne, Kansas, she was married to John Edgar Duey. This union was blessed with two children. Tess and John lived in the Chester area for seven years, moved to the Edgar and Davenport area where they lived for 26 years, and then moved to Nelson where she was making her home at the time of her death. She was a lifetime member of the Methodist Church and a member of the Woman's Society. Tess was a loving mother and grandmother. Her children and grandchildren were a great joy to her. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, reading and being with her family and friends. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, John on November 26, 1987; three brothers, Oscar, Amos and George Edward Norlund; three sisters, Wilma Craft, Dorothy Blanchard and Ursula Lily. Survivors include two sons, Donald Duey and his wife Jan, of Elwood, Nebraska, SSG Paul Duey and his wife Peggy, of Clay Center, Kansas; two daughters, Verna Coxbill and her husband Duane of Edgar and LoRee Thornton and her husband Johnny of Bladen; two brothers, Frank Norlund of Knob Noster, Missouri, and Lewis Dean Norlund and his wife Mary of Golden, Colorado; and a sister, Mary Martinson of Harcourt, Iowa; 19 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Funeral services were held Friday, December 28, 1990, at 2:00 P.M. from the Nelson Community United Church of Christ, with Rev. Royce Buchtel officiating. Music was provided by soloist Diane Collins, singing "In The Garden" and "Beyond The Sunset", with Jan Schnitker as organist and accompanist. Casketbearers were: Ken Adams, Randy Tjarks, Todd Thornton, Terry Tausch, Mike Rieger and Chad Thornton. Burial was in the Edgar Cemetery near Edgar, Nebraska.
