Mabel Trena DeBoer was born on January 21, 1923 in Harrison, SD to Martinus and Jennie (Kiel) Slykhuis. She attended rural school near Harrison. On October 1, 1941 she married Raymond DeBoer. To this union 3 boys and 2 girls were born. She was a true farmer's wife who worked with her husband and sons in the field and milked cows. In 1983 they moved from the farm into Stickney. Ray died on February 16, 2000. Mabel continued living in Stickney until 2010 when she moved to Corsica Good Samaritan Center. She was known for her great sense of humor and quick wit. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Stickney. Mabel died on Wednesday, July 8, 2015 at Good Samaritan Center in Corsica at the age of 92. She is survived by 5 children, Harold DeBoer of Mitchell, SD, Gary (Kathy) DeBoer of Central City, NE, Dennis (JoAnn) of Huron, SD, Sharon (Jack) Gardner of White Lake, SD, and Patti (Randy) Woods of Plankinton, SD, 2 sisters, Altha Brink of Rapid City, SD and Linda Bordewyk of Corsica, SD, 14 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Ray, sister, Esther Vavruska, 3 brothers, Henry, John and Lloyd, and daughter-in-law, Mickey DeBoer.
