Description	:	Madeline was the daughter of Charles W. Jenkins and Lillian (Liller) D. Foss. She was the sister of Doris and Russell. Her friends growing up were Violet Gray and Charlotte Hogencamp. She became the devoted wife of Albert on August 24, 1929 when they married at the home of the Justice of the Peace, Harry Little,in Center Barnstead. She became the devoted wife of Albert on August 24, 1929 when they married at the home of the Justice of the Peace, Harry Little,in Center Barnstead. For a honeymoon they went to a cottage at Bow Lake and eventually went to the White Mountains. Madeline was the proud mother of Glendle Delena, Pauline Lue, Sheila Vienna, Carroll Walter, Velma Eldora and Paulette Madeline. She loved watching soap operas and chose her children's names from them. Madeline had short brown hair with finger waves on the sides and was very mild mannered. She was a midwife, drove the school bus and cleaned houses. For many years she was a stitcher in several area shoe factories including the former Pittsfield Shoe Company and Adams Brothers Shoe Factory. She always dreamt of becoming a nurse. Madeline had a green thumb and enjoyed tending to her flower garden. She also enjoyed crocheting and watching for deer in the field or the occasional moose to come into her yard, but her greatest joy came from her children and grandchildren. Her door was always open and her kitchen table always full of friends that had stopped in for coffee. She made wonderful donuts, corn chowder and peppermint tea. She was very superstitious and would not allow images of birds in the house, anyone to walk under a ladder, or hang a hat on a doorknob or let a black cat cross her path. She didn't like going to sleep and always stayed up late. She adored her family and always loved getting in the car and going for a ride with or without a destination in mind. Her favorite color was pink, season was summer, flower was gladiola and books were Little Women and The Scarlet Letter. Madeline's favorite sayings were, "From the time you're born, until you ride in a hurse, there's never a time, but things could be worse." and "Tomorrow day may never come, the past will never return. So take with me the solemn vow, the live the newborn now." Madeline was very sad to grow up as an only child after the death of her two siblings and never got over the death of her daughter, Pauline. Later in life she was also predeceased by her son, Carroll. Madeline died at Epsom Manor Health Care where she lived after breaking her hip. She was survived by her four daughters, 11 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Albert, daughter Pauline and son Carroll. Her funeral was held at 10:00 a.m. on March 21, 1995 at Perkins Funeral Home. Pall bearers were Billy Welch, Paul Davis, Roland Bunker and John Cotton. 125-150 friends and relatives attended her funeral. Madeline didn't cook much (her mother lived with them and cooked for the family), but was famous for her donuts, corn chowder and peppermint tea. Corn Chowder: Fry salt pork till crisp. Add cut up onion and cook until tender. Add potatoes (cubed) and cup up carrots. Cook until tender and add 2 cans of cream style corn, evaporated milk, regular milk and serve. Add salt and pepper to taste. Peppermint Tea: Hot water, sugar and peppermint flavor. Madeline made this for every ailment her children had and Glendle said it always made her feel better. Madeline's famous sayings: Call me if you are going to be late or need a ride. Don't lie to me, because I'll never spank you if you tell the truth. Madeline's favorite place: The pasture and ledge behind their farm on Province Road. She loved to pick blueberries there, walk the path to the spring, dig gold thread and gather spruce gum. The area was semi-cleared and fairly high to look out and see the mountains. She would spend her private moments being a friend to her horse and cow and sit on the ledge and look for mica. Madeline suffered from an enlarged heart, a hiatal hernia and a broken hip.
