Description	:	Glendle was the oldest child of Albert and Madeline Emerson. She was the sister of Pauline, Sheila, Carroll, Velma and Paulette and beloved mother to George (Kathy), Greg, Gayle (Phil) and Gerald and four step-children; Donna, Marion, Dale and Bruce. She had six grandchildren; Heather, Chris, Kristen, Thomas, Madilyn and Ella and two great-grandchildren; Tyler and Rhiannon. Glendle was born at home on Maple Street in Center Barnstead, NH. She was so tiny they used to put her in the oven to keep her warm. She grew up on a farm on the right hand... Read More	Glendle was the oldest child of Albert and Madeline Emerson. She was the sister of Pauline, Sheila, Carroll, Velma and Paulette and beloved mother to George (Kathy), Greg, Gayle (Phil) and Gerald and four step-children; Donna, Marion, Dale and Bruce. She had six grandchildren; Heather, Chris, Kristen, Thomas, Madilyn and Ella and two great-grandchildren; Tyler and Rhiannon. Glendle was born at home on Maple Street in Center Barnstead, NH. She was so tiny they used to put her in the oven to keep her warm. She grew up on a farm on the right hand side, near the top of the hill, on Province Road in Barnstead. To keep warm, all the kids slept in one bed in the room that had a hole in the floor above the stove in the kitchen. They had a three potty outhouse in the barn with the Sears Roebuck catalog for toilet paper. They had a hand pump for the well in the front yard for water. Bath water would be boiled on the stove, put into a tub and then each child took their turn in the water. They had kerosene lamps and would look forward to visits from their uncle bringing them hot dogs. One of Glendle's first friends was Frances Golden. Glendle was very beautiful, intelligent and talented. She won awards for sewing and canning in 4H. She was a cheerleader at Pittsfield High School and graduated with honors in the Pittsfield High School Class of 1948. After many years of lining up her siblings and making them play school, Glendle received a scholarship to attend Keene State Teacher's College, making her the first in her family to attend. At KSC she worked in the dining room and roomed with her high school classmate, Marge Dustin (Stapleton) in Huntress Hall. Glendle graduated with a bachelor's degree in elementary education in the Class of 1952. She married Pittsfield High School classmate George Ashley. They moved to Washington DC, Montpelier, VT, Cheshire, CT, and Farmington, CT before divorcing in 1971. On April 24, 1974 she became the beloved wife of John Gerald "Jerry" Kearney. After several years in Farmington, Glendle and Jerry bought a 20 acre farm on Bow Lake Road in Barnstead. Upon retirement, they spent summers at 924 Province Road, Barnstead, just down the street from where Glendle grew up, and winters at 113 Buckeye Ave NW, Port Charlotte, FL. Glendle was a fabulous and highly requested kindergarten to 4th grade teacher in Washington D.C., Southington, CT and New Britain, CT. In Southington she taught at the Milldale School. In New Britain she taught at Chamberlain, Israel Putnam and Smith Schools teaching kindergarten, pre-primary, first grade. It delighted her that her students would come into her classroom not knowing how to read and leave at the end of the year reading. Glendle loved to bake,(and share her baked goods with others!) garden, can vegetables, play cards and square dance. Only 5'2", unless pregnant, Glendle never weighed more than 96 lbs, but her spirit was larger than life. She had naturally brown curly hair that retained most of it's color until her death. She was excited to finally get a few gray hairs so everyone would believe she didn't dye it! She always saw the good in everyone and had a sunny disposition and optimistic attitude. Her greatest joy came from doing things for others and spending time with family and friends. She was a devoted daughter, wife, and sister, a wonderful mother and grandmother, and loyal friend to all. She will be remembered for her kindness, strength and grace.
