Warder, 90, of Agency, one of the early day musicians of this area, died Sunday at 5:45 a.m. at the home of his niece, Mrs. Howard Spilman near Bloomfield. The son of Madison Commodore and Nancy Carson Warder, he was born February 15, 1875, in Wapello County. A resident of the county all of his life, he attended the Hedrick Normal School, Drake University, and the American Conservatory in Chicago. Warder, 90, of Agency, one of the early day musicians of this area, died Sunday at 5:45 a.m. at the home of his niece, Mrs. Howard Spilman near Bloomfield. The son of Madison Commodore and Nancy Carson Warder, he was born February 15, 1875, in Wapello County. A resident of the county all of his life, he attended the Hedrick Normal School, Drake University, and the American Conservatory in Chicago. Many residents of the community can remember when Warder had his own combo and did all the arranging for the various instruments. He was a past member of the Ottumwa Municipal Band and from 1926 to 1934 was in charge of the Agency High School orchestra and the Agency Main Line Band. He had farmed, was editor of the Agency News, and had served as Courier's correspondent in Agency. From 1926 to 1929, he was secretary of the Agency School Board. He had served as assessor in Agency and was a past secretary of the Wapello County Farmers Institute. He was employed as a post office clerk here prior to his retirement. He is survived by a sister, Miss Jessie Warder with whom he made his home; two brothers, Sherman Warder of Fremont and Thurman Warder of Altona, Ill.; and many nieces and nephews. Eight brothers and sisters preceded him in death. The service will be Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. in the Reece Funeral Home in Ottumwa with the Rev. Harold Welsh of Agency officiating. Burial will be in the Agency Cemetery.
