Description	:	Madlyn Halligan Wafful, 90, living in New Braunfels, TX passed away on January 22, 2020. She was born on January 14, 1930 in Fort Dodge, Iowa, and was the daughter of the late Michael (Art) Halligan and Dorothy Halligan. Read More	Madlyn Halligan Wafful, 90, living in New Braunfels, TX passed away on January 22, 2020. She was born on January 14, 1930 in Fort Dodge, Iowa, and was the daughter of the late Michael (Art) Halligan and Dorothy Halligan. While living much of her life in Iowa Madlyn married her high school sweetheart, Robert E. Wafful. In 1966 she and Bob moved their five children from Ft. Dodge to Roswell, New Mexico, during the earliest days of the fast food franchise industry. Beginning with one Kentucky Fried Chicken their food businesses grew as the whole family worked together through the many years. Ultimately ‘the Wafful enterprise’ grew to five different establishments which included Kentucky Fried Chicken, Taco Box, and K-Bob’s Steakhouse. Employing all their children at one time or another Madlyn eventually owned and ran the Roswell establishments. As Madlyn became a prominent member of the business community, she took her place in several service organizations. She was an active member of the Altrusa Club eventually serving as president. Additionally, she became the first woman admitted to the Chamber of Commerce Red Coats where she was recognized as a lifetime member. After 32 years in Red Coats Madlyn became the first female member to earn 10,000 service points. This led the mayor of Roswell to declare December 7, 2012 “Madlyn Wafful Day” for this exceptional achievement. Although these activities filled her days with purpose, her real joy came from following her children’s lives. As a mom she always stepped up to help her children whether it was moving one of them from one state to another or into an apartment just around the corner. Madlyn was always ready to help her children or grandchildren! Madlyn also loved traveling the world which included many trips to her ‘mother country’ of Ireland. (“Ya, know I have been there five times!”) Her gift of humor was a witness to her Irish-American father, Art. They were both quick-witted and loved being Irish. If Madlyn were writing this obituary today she would wish to end it by quoting an old Irish blessing: “May your glass be ever full. May the roof over your head be always strong; And may you be in heaven half an hour before the devil knows you’re dead.” Mom, until we meet again may God hold you in the palm of His hand. (Another old Irish blessing). In addition to her parents, Madlyn was preceded in death by Bob Wafful, father of their five children; and her siblings/wives, Otis and Charmaine Halligan and Pat and Anita Halligan and brother-in-law, Mervyn Habenicht. Those left to cherish her memory are Madlyn’s children include son, Tim Wafful, and wife, Cheryl of Roswell, NM; daughter, Lynn Edwards and husband, Randy of New Braunfels, TX; daughter, Amy Ashlyn and husband, Dave of Roswell, NM; son, Robert A. Wafful and wife, Joy of San Antonio, TX; and son, Terry Wafful and wife, Pam of Fairview, TN. Madlyn’s seven surviving grandchildren and spouses include Tawnya and Jody Satterfield, Kelli and Josh Lusk, Robert and Alayna Edwards, Reed and Julie Edwards, Christopher Wafful, Riley and Scott Kinsworthy, and Joel Castelo of Roswell and by her sister, Evelyn Habenicht of Bettendorf, Iowa and sister in-law Patricia Glaser of Ft. Dodge, Iowa. Those included among surviving are nieces and nephews from the Halligan and Wafful families. Madlyn’s other blessings include seven great-children Andrew, Kaleb, Julia, Tristan, Trevan, Lila and Leo. Also cherishing her memory are many nieces and nephews throughout several states. Graveside services will be held at Our Lady of Good Counsel of Moorland, Iowa, on June 13, 2020.
