The Burrton Graphic (Burrton, KS.), P. 1, Col. 2 Thu., Jul. 12, 1917 Mrs. Mae Adams Mae Hoskinson was born near Burrton, Kansas, March 16th, 1885, and died at her home in Burrton July 5th, 1917, age thirty two years, three months, nineteen days. Her youth and young womanhood was spent at the family home south of Burrton. In 1910 she went to Portland, Oregon, on a visit and while there was united in marriage to Henry Adams on Thanksgiving Day, 1911. After residing in Oregon for a couple of years, she, with her husband, returned to the vicinity of the old home. Last October she, with her family, removed to Carlsbad, New Mexico, for her health, where, as elsewhere, she made a hard struggle to regain health, but gradually growing weaker and on June the 12th, the family saw fit to return to Burrton where in a short time the Grim Reaper came. Only one in the Christian faith could have borne this affliction as she did, always praising God for his mercy and kindness, and thankful for enough strength that she could sing the hymn "For He is so Precious to Me." In 1913, she united with the United Brethren church at Pleasant Grove and was a faithful member of the same at death. She died triumphant in the faith and her love for Him. One of her choice gems from Evangelist Rev. E. J. Bulgin was: "Make for yourself a strong box. Fasten each part with care. When it's as strong as your heart can make it, Put all your sorrows there, So that the world will never guess half. Make for yourself this box, Then sit on the lid and laugh." Another was: "The way to be saved is to believe in Jesus, And let Jesus do the saving: the way to keep saved is to keep on believing and let Jesus do the keeping." She leaves to mourn her departure and cherish her memory: her loving and faithful companion, two children, Mary Ellen, aged five years, and Joseph Jennings, age nineteen months: her father, G. W. Hoskinson, four brothers, George, Charley, Frank, Edward; three sisters, Mrs. Ella McElwain, Mrs. W. J. Collins, Mrs. Dennis Myers; and other relatives and friends. "Right blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth; Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labors, and their works do follow them." Funeral services were held in the Methodist Episcopal church, conducted by Rev. D. C. Shields assisted by Rev. Pasley of the United Brethren church, Rev. Kirkpatrick of the Presbyterian church and Rev. Barley of the Church of Christ. Interment was in the Burrton cemetery.
